Following on from our last update and within the context of ‘Care in our Community’, we are focussing on the role creativity and technology can play in encouraging children to develop their skills and confidence, as well as being inclusive of children with special needs, such as Autism.

Some personal observations come from experience from family members, as well as the related Community. We observe, the valuable role creative play has to the development of children and many studies have been conducted concerning this from the Lego Foundation to many European Universities, to the role of Technology for challenged children from companies such as IBM. The role of Technology from the creating 3D world in games such Minecraft to 3D printing and Virtual Reality to Robotics, which is enticing children can be combined whilst nurturing basic creative skills and visualisation of thought processes, along with Visual Designers and Illustrators.

The fascination and skills, we believe can be further developed when ‘tapping’ into the ‘out of the box’ thinking of some children with Autism. Looking at the into the introductions of the ‘Arts’ within STEM and moving into STEAM, as initiated by the Rhode Island School of Design in the US. Seeing how we can co-design and co-create interesting and fun workshops, to stimulate children curiosity, whilst developing and nurturing their skills for the future.

Over the year, we have been developing this project in Brussels, with one of our central city and Community based Libraries – Muntpunt. Also, with the development of our sister organisation of BIDs Belgium. It seemed only natural to further develop this and co-design this project with children, while reaching out to other potential partners.

We have reached out to a number of collaborators ranging from Fablabs to Technology firms for our ‘Analogue to Digital’ project. With encouraging the Community to come together, from Parents, Care-givers, Teachers, Medical Professionals to join in with the pilot workshop to be held at Muntpunt (details to follow).

If you are interested to know more or get involved, please reach out and contact us, we’d love to hear from you.

The issue is an issue that not enough people are speaking intelligently about. I am very happy I came across this during my hunt for something regarding this.
